Characteristics

Rhizomatous and tuberous, perennial herb. Tubers c. 15–20 mm long, 5–6 mm wide, sessile on short, horizontal rhizome. Leaves 2 or 3, 30–60 cm long, 4–8 mm wide. Inflorescence racemose to paniculately c. 6-branched, 45–75 cm long; sterile bracts lanceolate, 15–20 mm long. Flowers 1 per node; pedicels 1–12 mm long, nodding in flower and fruit, articulated c. 1 mm from flower; bracts 2–3 mm long. Perianth segments c. 10 mm long. Sepals lanceolate, c. 3 mm wide. Petals elliptic, c. 5–6 mm wide. Anthers 5–6 mm long, purple; appendages 4, c. 1 mm long, dark purple; filaments c. 2 mm long, geniculate. Ovary c. 1–1.3 mm diam.; style c. 7 mm long. Capsule ± spherical, 3-lobed, c. 5–6 mm diam.; perianth persistent. Seeds ± spherical, 1–1.5 mm diam.
