Characteristics

Inflorescence terminal, paniculate, the branches consisting of few-or several-flowered simple scorpioid cymes. Sepals 3, free. Petals 3, free, essentially equal. Stamens 6, rarely 5, all fertile; filaments short, free, naked; anthers ovoid-fusiform, with a narrow inconspicuous connective, dehiscing by apical pores. Ovary 3-celled. Capsule with 3-5 arillate seeds.
