Characteristics

Herb up to 0.5 m high, frequently stoloniferous. Leaves ovate to widely-ovate, acute to obtuse, broadly cuneate at base, (7-)10-18(-23) x (5-)7-13(-17) mm, with eglandular trichomes and cystoliths; petiole (2-)3-7(-9) mm long. Inflorescence (1-)2(-3) monochasial cymes (inflorescence units), umbellately arranged, with 1 'umbel' in each axil, inflorescence axis (1.3-) 1.6-6.1 (-9.6) mm long, longest peduncle of inflorescence units (1.4-) 1.9-7.0(-11.7) mm long. Bracts: secondary bracts lanceolate, occasionally elliptic, (2.2-)3.3-5.2(-8.0) x 0.4-1.5(-4.5) mm, sparsely strigose on margins and veins, trichomes multicellular and eglandular; tertiary bracts widely obovate, widely elliptic or very widely ovate, acuminate to acute, larger (7.2-)8.9-12.2(-14.0) x (4.5-)6.3-10.1 (-15.0) mm, strigose on margin, sparsely strigose on veins and outer surface, glabrous on inner surface, trichomes multicellular and eglandular. Calyx: tube 1.5 mm long; inner surface with broad-based appressed eglandular trichomes, outer surface with glandular trichomes, margins with eglandular trichomes and with glandular trichomes and spreading eglandular trichomes near the base. Corolla purple, pink or white, on short stalk within the calyx; stalk 0.8 mm long; tube (6-)7-9(-10) mm long, with curved eglandular trichomes, and straight glandular trichomes; lip in upper position trifid, narrowly elliptic, (6.5-)7.5-9.9(-10.2) x (2.0-)2.3-3.7(-4.5) mm, with dark purple honey guides; lip in lower position bifid, narrowly elliptic, (6.5-)7.4-9.7(-12.0) x (2.5-)2.9-4.4(-6.0) mm. Stamens: filaments with curved ornamented eglandular trichomes; thecae superposed, approximated. Disc very shallowly cupular, with 2 small triangular awns. Gynoecium: stigma bilobed; style sparsely strigose; ovary ovoid with glandular trichomes. Capsule (5.0-)6.1-8.5(-9.0) x (2.5-)3.2-4.4(-6.0) mm, with many glandular and some eglandular trichomes. Seeds 2.3-2.7 x 2.3-2.6(-2.7) mm, rough and with squat tubercles.
