Characteristics

Herb up to 0.9 m tall. Leaves ovate, acute to acuminate base cuneate, attenuate, usually oblique, (17-)22-47(-54) x (7-)9-19(-22) mm, glabrous; petioles (2-)3-13(-18) mm long. Inflorescence: 2-4 inflorescence units umbellately arranged, with up to 2 'umbels' in each axil, often axillary branches are terminated by an 'umbel', in which case the terminal inflorescence unit has an unusually long peduncle; inflorescence axis (0.7-)6.9-4.0(-5.3) mm long. Bracts: secondary bracts narrowly triangular or lanceolate, apiculate, (3.5-)4.5-6.8(-7.7) x 0.5-0.9(-1.1) mm, glabrous; tertiary bracts narrowly elliptic to narrowly ovate, (10-)11-12(-13) x (2.5-)2.7-3.7(-4.9) mm, margins sparsely strigose with short trichomes, surface with some stalked glandular trichomes near the edges, tips remaining green. Calyx: tube 1.0 mm long; lobes 3.5 mm long, margin strigose, outer surface dense with stalked glandular trichomes, inner surface with appressed eglandular and some small glandular trichomes. Corolla light purple; tube (5.0-)6.5-8.8(-9.7) mm long, with curved eglandular trichomes; lip in lower position elliptic (7-)9-11 (-12) x (2.3-)3.2-4.9(-5.8) mm; lip in upper position narrowly oblong (8-)9-11(-12) x (1.6-)1.8-2.5(-3.3) mm. Stamens: filaments with curved eglandular trichomes on the facing surfaces, and minute glandular trichomes near the anthers; thecae superposed. Disc deeply cupular, with two approximated triangular awns and two broader, squat awns. Gynoecium: stigma with two equal, shortly filiform lobes; style sparsely strigose; ovary ovoid, with a few eglandular trichomes near the apex. Capsule sparsely glandular with stalked glandular trichomes, (5.5-)5.9-6.8(-7.1) x (2.0-)2.1-2.6(-3.0) mm. Seeds (1.2-)1.3-1.7(-1.9) x (1.2-)1.3-1.6(-1.7) mm, rough with conical, squat, unhooked tubercles.
