Characteristics

Shrub to shrublet? Stem ramified; the branches nearly circular in section, covered with a greyish white tomentum of simple hairs, especially on young branches, with sessile glands. Leaves (10-)15-25 x (4-)7-10 mm, alternate, broadly elliptic to suborbicular, with a pseudopetiole 3-5(-8) mm long; the margins sometimes slightly undulate; apex sometimes with a mucro up to 0.5 mm long; both surfaces very densely greyish white tomentose, with sessile glands. Capitula numerous per plant, solitary on peduncles up to 5 mm long, with 2(-5) subtending leaves that do not cover or only slightly cover the involucre; Involucre 13-16 x 12-15 mm, campanulate, with c. 80-100 phyllaries arranged in 7-8 rows, straw-coloured (?), with a darker stripe on either side of the midrib, with an acuminate, pungent, curved apex 1-6 mm long; tomentose on the proximal part, the margins entire to shortly serrulate principally towards the apical part, without scarious margin; outermost phyllaries 2-3 x 0.3-0.5 mm, lanceolate, erect-patent; middle phyllaries 3-11 x 1-1.5 mm, oblong-lanceolate, erect; innermost phyllaries 10-15 x 1.5-2 mm, longer than outer phyllaries, oblong-lanceolate, erect; receptacle flat, alveolate, the pits surrounded by a wall with a dentate margin c. 0.5 mm high. Corolla lobes long, with short glandular twin hairs, especially toward the apical part. Stamens with slightly apiculate apical appendages; anther tails long, with several retrorse hairs and few antrorse hairs at the apex. Stylar branches long and erect, with sweeping hairs forming a subapical ring. Achenes turbinate (8-)10-ribbed, hispid, covered with ascending white hairs, these inserted between the ribs from the base to the top of the achene, with epidermal glands between the ribs; pappus isomorphic, of barbellate bristles arranged in several series, the innermost wider than the more external; barbellae usually are longer than bristle width.
