Characteristics

Plants mostly 500-900 mm high. Stem inclined, often somewhat flexuose, bearing sheathing leaves at upper nodes 30-60 mm long; irregularly few-branched, branches relatively short. Foliage leaves usually exceeding stem, up to 1000 mm long, sword-shaped, 30-48 mm wide. Rhipidia ± obtuse or emarginate, dark green; inner 45-60 mm long, outer ± half as long. Flowers white with speckled yellow nectar guides at bases of outer tepals, claws of both whorls speckled orange, style branches white; outer tepals 30-35 x 13-20 mm, claws ± 12 mm long, densely hairy, limbs ± spreading; inner tepals 25-35 x ± 12 mm, limbs spreading. Stamens free; filaments ± 6 mm long, ± filiform throughout; anthers ± 4.5 mm long. Ovary ± 10 mm long; style ± 3 mm long, branches 7-9 x 6-8 mm, crests 5-10 mm long. Capsules subglobose, 25-35 x 20 mm, smooth, nodding, indehiscent, decaying to release seeds. Seeds angular, dark brown.
