Suffrutex; caules singuli vel pauci e caudice crasso lignoso exeuntes suberecti-adscendentes vel rarius decumbentes usque 5 dm longi e basi valde lignescentes ramosi; caules ramique sat dense foliati partibus junioribus virides rubescentes + glanduloso-hirti vel glabri saepe sparse aculeolati striati vel leviter angulati partibus vetustioribus robusti lignosi usque 1 cm crassi cortice glabrato cicatricoso luteolo-fusco obtecti. Folia alterna rigide membranacea glanduloso-hirta vel glabra plerumque sparse aculeolata linearia vel lineari-lanceolata 2-8 cm longa 1-5(-7) mm lata acuta-acuminata calloso-mucronulata basin versus leviter angustata fere semiamplexicaulia margine remote spinoso-denticulata vel integerrima; folia summa linearia vel linearisubulata plerumque integerrima nervo medio subtus elevato subtriquetra. Capitula in apicibus caulium et ramorum solitaria; pedunculi nudi dense glanduloso-hirti-muricati usque 10 cm longi in statu florendi erecti in fructificatione cernui. Involucrum campanulatum 10-15 mm altum; squamae c. 13 lanceolatae vel lineari-lanceolatae inter sese fere aequilongae acuminatae per medium dorsum virides + dense glanduloso-puberulae-muriculatae margine albido-scariosae ciliolatae. Flores radii c. 13; ligulae supra albae subtus purpureae margine saepe ochroleucae vel albae involucrum plus duplo superantes. Flores disci involucro 3-5 mm breviores; corollae inferne albidae superne atropurpureae. Achaenia dura glabra obtuse triangulari-ellipsoidea, angulis laevibus integerrimis basi tumidis; latera sulcis paucis longitudinalibus instructa vel interdum foveolata c. 6 mm longa c. 3.5 mm diam.
