Herba annua vel rarissime perennans mvdticaulis viscidula; caules ramosi primo suberecti vel adscendentes mox prostrati sparse glanduloso-hirti-pubescentes teretes striati basi parum lignescentes 2-3 mm crassi usque 3 dm longi; internodia 0.5-2(-4) cm longa. Folia alterna 1-4 cm longa + glanduloso-hirta pinnatipartita vel rarius bipinnatipartita, laciniis utrinque 3-5 linearibus margine integerrimis vel paucidentatis saepe involutis apice obtusiusculis usque 1 cm longis c. 1 mm latis; rachis folii linearis 0.5-2 mm lata interdum praeter lacinias dentibus instructa. Capitula pedunculata in apicibus caulium et ramorum; pedunculi graciles glanduloso-hirti in statu florendi erecti, fructiferi cernui, 1-5 cm longi bracteis paucis linearibus vel lineari subulatis dentatis vel integerrimis instructi. Involucri squamae c. 12-14 subuniseriatae fere aequilongae lanceolatae acuminatae 4-5 mmlongae 1-1.5 mm latae dorso gIanduloso-hispidulae(-pubescentes) margine albido-scariosae ciliatae. Flores radii involucri squamas numero aequantes; ligulae utrinque flavae vel subtus partim violaceae in volucrum modo 1-3 mm superantes; flores disci flavi involucro fere aequilongi. Achaenia radii polymorpha scabra conspicue vel obsolete triangularia recta vel leviter incurva 3-4 mm longa, angulo interiore obtuso vel rarius alato, angulis exterioribus processibus alaeformibus vel paucis subteretibus instructis; achaenia disci lateribus applanata obovato-oblonga margine leviter incrassata 3-4 mm longa 2-3 mm lata.

Glabrescent to glandular-hairy shrublet, up to 300 mm tall, with soft annual stems. Leaves linear to linear-oblanceolate or narrowly spathulate, glaucous, ± glabrous, margins entire or toothed (dentate-pinnatifid), thickly ciliate. Flowerheads radiate, solitary on long peduncles, sparsely leafy below; ray florets orange or yellow, rarely white; disc florets purple. Cypselas of ray florets vestigial, of disc florets large, flat, obcordate or suborbicular.
