Leaves alternate or rarely subopposite; petiole up to 5 cm. long; blade ovate-cordate, narrowed to an acute scarcely acuminate apex and with rounded basal lobes, up to 6 cm. long and 4 cm. broad.. Male 1 per leaf-axil, very variable in length, from less than 1 cm. to 14 cm. long, with single shortly pedicellate flowers or short 2–4-flowered cymules at each node, apically appearing paniculate as the cymules arise in the axils of bracts; perianth spreading, ± 5 mm. across; segments elliptic, the inner rather broader. Stamens 3; staminodes 3, shorter than the stamens, filiform.. Female inflorescence 1 per leaf-axil, up to 1.5 cm. long, 2-flowered; perianth spreading, ± 6 mm. across. Ovary ± 1 cm. long.. Capsule as in fig. 1/1, p. 4, with parallel nerves extending from the suture towards the axis, probably not reflexed.. Seeds (fig. 1/1a, b) without a wing.
