Stems very twining, glabrous; leaves alternate; petiole 1/2-1 in. long; blade simple, firm in texture, green and glabrous on both surfaces, cordate-deltoid when fully developed, 76-102 mm [as '3-4 in.'] long and broad, with 5-7 deltoid lobes, reaching about halfway down to the petiole, the central one prominently triplinerved from base to apex, conspicuously mucronate, sometimes shallowly 3-or 5-lobed with a large rounded central lobe, or even cordate-ovate or cordate-orbicular and quite undivided; male flowers in lax spikes 25-51 mm [as '1-2 in.'] long with a very flexuose, strongly-angled, glabrous rachis, each subtended by a small deltoid cuspidate bract; perianth campanulate, glabrous, 1/8 in. diam. when expanded; tube short; segments ovate, acute; fertile stamens 6; anthers elliptical; rudimentary style very short, triquetrous; female flowers deflexed, arranged in lax spikes with a flexuose rachis; perianth campanulate, 1/6 in. diam.; ovary linear-oblong, glabrous, in. long; capsule obovate-oblong, 3/4-1 in. long; seeds with an orbicular nucleus, with a broad membranous wing all round.
