Underground parts unknown, but the tuber is said to be eaten. Plant glabrous. Stem with minute prickles near its base, ridged, to 4 mm in diam. Bulbils not seen. Leaves coriaceous, opposite or subopposite, broadly ovate, rounded at the base, with a long acumen, to 14 by 9 cm, 5-nerved; lower surface with even the smaller nerves somewhat prominent; petioles to 8 cm. Male flowering axes on small leafless rather lax branches and on leafless branch-ends, 1-3 together, to 5 cm long, with ca 30 flowers spaced rather more than their own diameters apart, slender, straight, ridged. Buds somewhat elongated, to 2 mm long. Female plant unknown.
