Characteristics

Evergreen shrub or small tree 3-5 m. tall; young stems in life green later grey-brown.. Leaves green and glossy above in life, drying brown, oblong, lanceolate or elliptic to obovate-oblanceolate, 9-28 cm. long, 3-11 cm. wide, obtuse to acuminate at the apex, rounded to cuneate at the base, glabrous and shiny above, glabrous beneath, subcoriaceous; lateral nerves ± 13, impressed in life,together with midrib prominent beneath; venation reticulate; petiole 1.5 cm. long.. Female flowers sessile, 3-10 in axils of the upper leaves; calyx-tube urceolate, 5 mm. long, 4-toothed; calyx-teeth triangular, 3-5 mm. long, ± 2 mm. wide, recurved, the whole calyx densely golden-brown sericeous hairy outside; corolla white, funnel-shaped, 1-1.2 cm. long, silky outside, 4-lobed; corolla-lobes rounded-triangular, 5 mm. long, mucronate; staminodes 8-12, 2 mm. long; ovary spherical, 2-2.5 mm. diameter, adpressed silky hairy; styles 4, 2 mm. long.. Fruit globose, 1.5 cm. diameter, adpressed brownish sericeous pilose, 8-locular, exserted from the calyx which is cup-shaped, 7 mm. long, 1.5 cm. wide, more densely pilose with broadly triangular lobes..
