Characteristics

Small tree 4 m. tall; bark on branchlets grey, closely and finely striate.. Leaves drying dark brown and shining above, pale yellow-brown beneath, broadly to narrowly lanceolate, up to 5.5 cm. long and 2 cm. broad, slightly emarginate at the apex, slightly asymmetric at the base, thickened and slightly recurved at the margin, with long slender seta-like hairs on the midrib and margin beneath, especially in the proximal half, and with shorter flexuose hairs towards the base of the midrib; midrib slightly prominent above, conspicuously raised beneath, the lateral nerves in ± 6 pairs, clearly visible on both surfaces, slightly raised above, slightly impressed beneath; venation visible and slightly raised above; petiole mm. long, with short hairs.. Male flowers unknown.. Female flowers solitary on older branchlets below the leaves, pedicel 1 mm. long; calyx cyathiform, 3.5 mm. long, setulose-tomentellous outside, glabrous inside; calyx-lobes 3, ± round, 1.75 mm. long; corolla broadly urceolate, 6.5 mm. tall, 3 mm. wide, densely strigulose in upper half, with 3 lobes 2.5 mm. long; staminodes not seen; ovary conical, 4 mm. long, 2.5 mm. wide, glabrous, encircled at the base by a fringe of hairs; style scarcely differentiated from the ovary, with 2 fleshy sessile irregularly lobed stigmata 1 mm. long; locules 4, uniovulate..
