Diospyros sonorae Standl.

A tree. It grows 18 m tall. The trunk is 1 m across. The crown is dense and rounded. The bark is dark brown and checkered. Young growth is hairy. The leaves are alternate and simple. They are 6-14 cm long and oval. They are shiny green above and dull underneath. Male and female flowers are separate. The flowers are white and green. The fruit are round and fleshy. They are 3-4 cm across. They are yellow and hairy but turn smooth and black. There are several seed.
