Characteristics

Shrub to 1 m high, erect or spreading, suckering, with long and short, mostly curved simple hairs, and with glandular hairs on inflorescence, the glands usually black or dark blue-purple. Leaves sessile or shortly petiolate, the lamina broadly linear, oblong to ovate, obovate or cuneate in outline, divided into linear, oblong or cuneate lobes, or entire or shortly lobed near apex, obtuse, 1–4.5 cm long, 0.3–1.5 cm wide, hirsute and usually pubescent, or pubescent on margin and midrib only, sometimes glabrous. Flowers pepper-scented. Pedicels 3–7 mm long. Sepals 1.5–2 mm long. Petals broadly spathulate to orbicular, 5–7 mm long including claw; claw c. 1 mm long. Stamens 4–5 mm long. Cocci 3.5–4 mm long, crustaceous, muricate, with glandular hairs and sometimes pubescent.
