Characteristics

Plant leafless. Basal bracts overlapping, blunt. Flower stem 400–600 mm tall, dark purplish brown, 10–40-flowered. Ovaries slightly humped, smooth or warty, unspotted. Flowers 20–25 mm across, dark pinkish purple to dark reddish purple with darker spots and blotches. Sepals and petals with recurved tips. Dorsal sepal 16–18 × 5–5.5 mm. Lateral sepals 16–18 × 4.5–5 mm. Petals 15–17 × 4.5–5 mm. Labellum 13–14.5 × 5–6.6 mm, dark purplish red; lateral lobes 5–6 × 1.3 mm, sparsely hairy on inside base; midlobe 9–10 × 5–6.5 mm, with narrow sparse band of mauve hairs. Callus ridges c. 6 × 0.4 mm, pubescent, nearly parallel. Column c. 7.5 × 2.5 mm, white stained with red. Capsules dark purple-red.
