Characteristics

Plant leafless. Basal bracts overlapping, crowded, greenish yellow, pointed. Flower stem 300–900 mm tall, greenish to greenish yellow, 5–30-flowered. Ovaries straight, smooth, green to greenish yellow, unspotted. Flowers uncrowded, 35–45 mm across, greenish to greenish yellow with numerous large, dark purplish red blotches (to 2 mm across). Perianth segments incurved to spreading, tips shallowly recurved. Dorsal sepal elliptical-lanceolate, 22–27 × 5–7 mm. Lateral sepals narrowly elliptical, 22–27 × 4–5.5 mm, widely divergent. Petals narrowly elliptical lanceolate, 20–25 × 4–5 mm, asymmetric, spreading. Labellum 16–20 × 5–6 mm, white with mauve to purplish suffusions (sometimes with scattered purple spots) and white hairs; lateral lobes oblong, 6–7 × 1.5–2 mm, pubescent internally at base, apex broadly obtuse to truncate, often lobed; midlobe 11–14 × 5–6 mm, white with mauve or purple suffusions and dense mass of white hairs to 2 mm long, tip upcurved. Callus 7–8 × 2.5 mm, covered with short hairs, deeply notched at apex, divergent lobes narrow, 1.5–2 mm long, protruding from beneath column. Column 8–11 × 3.5–4 mm, white. Capsules white or greenish.
