Characteristics

Plant leafless. Basal bracts overlapping, dark brown, sharply pointed. Flower stem 400–900 mm tall, green to dark reddish black, 10–40-flowered. Ovaries straight, green to reddish brown, unspotted. Flowers 20–30 mm across, opening pale pink, quickly fading to white, with large dark red spots and blotches. Sepals and petals with recurved tips. Dorsal sepal 12–20 × 3–5 mm. Lateral sepals 12–20 × 4–6 mm. Petals 12–20 × 4–6 mm. Labellum 11–17 × 4.5–6 mm, white with coarse red spots and blotches; lateral lobes 3–4 × 1 mm, pubescent internally near base; midlobe 8–12 × 4.5–6 mm, with broad central band of white hairs, tip upcurved. Callus ridges c. 3 × 0.6 mm, converging, hairy. Column 6–7 × 3 mm, white with yellow patch below stigma. Capsules yellowish or brownish.
