Characteristics

Terrestrial or epiphyte with spirally twisted, brittle, leafy, climbing stems 3–5 m long, old parts covered with tough, dry, straw-coloured leaf bases. Leaves crowded, narrowly tapered, 200–500 × 30–45 mm, curved, thin-textured but tough, channelled, strongly ribbed, bases overlapping, dark green to pale green, apex pointed. Racemes erect, 200–600 mm long, 5–25-flowered. Ovaries straight, white. Flowers 30–40 mm across, creamy white with red external blotches (appearing pink internally). Sepals and petals narrowly obovate. Dorsal sepal 20–25 × 5–7 mm. Lateral sepals 20–25 × 5–7 mm. Petals 20–25 × 4–5 mm. Labellum 15–20 × 6–8 mm, cream or pink with 4–6 red stripes; lateral lobes 3–4 × 0.8 mm, falcate; midlobe 10–12 × 6–8 mm, covered with fine hairs, dense mass of white hairs in apical half, margins and apex decurved. Callus ridges 6–7 × 1.5 mm, converging, hairy. Column 9–11 × 4–4.5 mm, white.
