Characteristics

A tree. It grows 15-30 m tall. The trunk is 60-80 cm across. It loses its leaves during the year. The twigs are hairy. The leaves are simple and alternate. They are oval to oblong and 10-30 cm long by 8-14 cm wide. The flowering shoots are 16-18 cm long with 2-4 branches each with 6-8 flowers. The fruit are oval with 2 wings 6-8 cm long by 2 cm wide. The fruit bodies are 2 cm long by 1.5 cm wide.

Environment

Open, dry, deciduous, dipterocarp forests and periodically flooded plain forests; either mixed with other dipterocarps or in pure stands. Also found in the transition zone between dry evergreen and deciduous dipterocarp forests with Pinus merkusii.
