Plants erect, 250-600 mm tall; sterile shoots rarely produced, 70 mm long with 2-3 obtuse, apiculate basal sheaths and 2 leaves; fertile shoots: cauline leaves 5-10, imbricate, either basal leaves longest or all leaves similar. Inflorescences slender, lax to subimbricate, 15-70-flowered; bracts at least as tall as the flowers. Flowers facing down at 45°, pale mauve and spotted darker mauve. Median sepal ovate to elliptic, galea 5-8 x 1.5-3.5 x 2-3 mm deep, the mouth open or the margins incurved; spur massive, conical, laterally flattened, usually with a rounded apex; lateral seªpals oblique, spreading, narrowly oblong, keeled apically, apiculus less than 0.5 mm long, 5-7 x 1.5-2.5 mm. Petals erect, oblique, falcate, with a small basal anticous lobe and apical rear lobe, 3.5-5 x 1.5-2.5 mm. Lip narrowly elliptic, canoe-shaped and spreading, the rounded surface upªpermost and papillate. Anther horizontal, c. 1.5 mm long; stigma flat, horizontal and almost square, tripulvinate; rostellum erect, c. 2 mm tall.
