Characteristics

Plants 100-400 mm tall, suffused with beetroot-red; cauline leaves green, narrowly lanceolate to lanceolate, basally to 90 mm long. Inflorescences slender, lax, (40-) 80-150 (-250) mm long and with 10-18 flowers; bracts green. Flowers with sepals and spur beetroot-red, lip and petals almost black. Median sepal narrowly oblong, obtuse, shallowly concave, 7-10 x 3-4 mm; spur cylindrical, tapering to an acute apex, 15-30 mm long; lateral sepals reflexed at anthesis, narrowly oblong, obtuse, 6-8 mm long. Petals obliquely ovate, subacute, often shallow bidentate, 5-7 x 3-5 mm. Lip oblong to narrowly oblong, rounded, fleshy, 5-7 (-8) x 2-4 mm. Anther semi-pendent, 1-1.5 mm long; stigma as tall as the rostellum and anªgled forwards; rostellum c. 1.5 mm tall.
