Characteristics

Plants 200-400 mm tall; radical leaves 5-10, hysteranthous, subsclerophyllous, frequently overtopping the inflorescence, less than 2 mm wide, cauline leaves lax, sheathing, 15-25 mm long. Inflorescences lax, rarely subsecund, 2-14-flowered. Flowers varying from pale sky-blue to deep purple-blue, lip frequently darker than the sepals. Median sepal erect, galea ovate, acute, (8-) 10-20 mm tall x 6-12 mm wide x 5-10 mm deep; spur cylindrical, rounded, 4-6 mm long; lateral sepals patent, oblong to rarely lanceolate, (8-) 10-18 mm long. Petals with the basal anticous lobe oblong to ovate, 1-2.5 mm in diameter, rounded, limb linear, 8-13 mm long, apex variously expanded, deeply bifid to lacerate to acute. Lip horizontal, at least basally, broadly to narrowly ovate, 10-25 mm long, more or less deeply dissected. Anther horizontal; stigma horizontal; rostellum equally 3-lobed.
