Characteristics

Plants slender or robust, 100-450 mm tall; leaves cauline, clustered at the stem base, lax higher up, almost equal up the stem, linear-lanceolate, up to 80 mm long, grading into the floral bracts. Inflorescences corymbose, dense, up to 30-flowered; bracts shorter than the ovaries. Flowers not resupinate, with white sepals and pale to dark red petals and lip. Median sepal reflexed to horizontal, shallowly galeate, 9-13 mm long, galea 3-6 mm wide x 2-4 mm deep; spur obsolete; lateral sepals oblong to narrowly ovate, suboblique, flat to shallowly concave, 10-15 mm long. Petals parallel to the anther, apex curved over its rear, often cu-cullate, oblong, suboblique, 5-7 mm long, proximal margin broadly fused to rostellum, distal margin often serrulate. Lip patent, apex often curved upwards, lorate, often narrowly diamond-shaped, 5-8 (-10) mm long. Anther horizontal; stigma deltate, equally tripulvinate; lateral rostellum lobes parallel, erect, central lobe smaller, fleshy.

Flowers many, resupinate, white with pale to dark red petals and lip. Sepals: median sepal boat-shaped; lateral sepals 10-17 mm long; spur obsolete. Petals strap-shaped, reflexed parallel to anther, obliquely narrowly oblong, apex acute curved over anther. Lip patent, apex often curved upwards, lorate, often narrowly diamond-shaped, 5-8(10) mm long. Flowering time Sept.-Jan., after fire.
Like D. atricapilla but sepals white, not keeled above and petals and lip pale to dark red.
