Characteristics

Plants slender, 250-500 mm tall; sterile shoots rarely produced; fertile shoots: cauline leaves to 7, lower 2-3 reduced to basal sheaths, white, hyaline or spotted red, apical leaves almost completely sheathing, grading into the floral bracts. Inflorescences lax to subdense, 8-18-flowered; bracts as tall as the flowers, apices often deflexed. Flowers borne horizontally, 15-20 mm in diameter, pink, sometimes more or less red or purplish, or purple-spotted. Median sepal erect, galea 8-12 x 6-10 x 4-6 mm deep, front margins occasionally incurved; spur slender, cylindrical, gradually decurved through 30°, 8-15 mm long; lateral sepals patent, elliptic to rotund, weakly keeled, 8-13 x 5.5-10 mm. Petals erect next to the rostellum, twisted to face the galea entrance, narrowly oblong, obliquely acute, 6-9 x 1.5-3 mm, basal anticous lobe and apical lobes small. Lip narrowly lanceoªlate to narrowly elliptic, acute, 6-8 x 1.2-2.5 mm. Anther 3-4 mm long; stigma shortly stipitate; lat-eral rostellum lobes parallel.

Fertile shoots: leaves up to 7, cauline, lower 2 or 3 reduced to basal sheaths, apical leaves almost completely sheathing, grading into floral bracts. Inflorescence a lax cylindrical raceme; flowers 8-18, resupinate, pink tinged white. Sepals 8-12 mm long, median sepal galeate, lateral sepals patent, elliptic to rotund, weakly keeled; spur cylindrical, horizontal at base, gradually decurved at length, 8-15 mm long. Petals erect next to rostellum, ovate to oblanceolate. Lip narrowly lanceolate. Flowering time Jan.-Mar.
Fertile stems 25–50 cm tall; cauline leaves mostly sheathing and 4–6 cm long, 2 leaves with free semi-erect narrowly lanceolate to linear blades up to 12 cm long.

Dorsal sepal galeate; galea erect, 8–12 mm long, 6–10 mm wide and 4–6 mm deep, ovate, acute to obtuse.
