Characteristics

Plants grass-like, 200-450 mm tall; basal leaves linear, hysteranthous, cauline leaves lax to imbricate, dry, sheathing. Inflorescences dense, conical to cylindrical, numerous-flowered; bracts setaceous, dry, as long as or shorter than the ovaries. Flowers bright red to orange, often with some yellow. Median sepal apiculate, galea 8-10 (-15) x 8-10 mm deep, margins incurved to partially close the entrance; spur slender, acute, grading imper-ceptably into the galea, 7-20 mm long; lateral sepals patent, elliptic to narrowly elliptic, obtuse, shallowly concave, apiculi up to 4 mm long. Petªals erect next to the rostellum, lanceolate, acumiªnate, falcate, with a basal anticous lobe flanking the stigma, 5-7 (-9) mm long. Lip narrowly ovate to linear-lanceolate, acute, margins rarely crenate, 10-12 mm long. Anther horizontal; stigma horiªzontal, on a 1 mm long pedicel, equally tripulviªnate; lateral rostellum lobes fused, shallowly conªcave, central lobe smaller, fleshy.
