Plants 0.5-1 m tall; radical leaves usually 5, semi-erect, frequently rolled, 200-500 x 5 mm, cauline leaves 6-9, lax, closely sheathing, 20-40 mm long. Inflorescences lax, 2-6-flowered. Flowers blue to violet-purple, petal apices green and lip darker purple. Median sepal erect, galeate, obtuse, 15-20 mm tall x 5-10 mm deep; spur usually straight, clavate, rounded, rarely cylindrical, obtuse, 2-4 mm long; lateral sepals patent, narrowly oblong to oblong, obtuse, 13-18 x 6-10 mm. Petals with orbicular to rarely oblong basal anticous lobes 3-4 mm in diameter, limb lorate, 11-16 mm long, ge-niculately curved about 2h down the length, apices expanded into flabellate structures 4-6 mm in diameter, with entire or dentate margins. Lip patent, narrowly elliptic to elliptic, obtuse, 11-16 mm long, margins usually denticulate and down-curved. Anther c. 5 mm long; stigma flat; rostellum with 3 equal lanceolate lobes.
