Characteristics

Plants 450-1000 mm tall; radical leaves 8-15, rigid, never overtopping the lowest flower, c. 2 mm wide, cauline leaves sheathing, lax, dry, 20-60 mm long. Inflorescences lax, 5-25-flowered. Flowers with cream-green galea, mauve lateral sepals, a green to grey-green lip and white petals or rarely flowers almost black. Median sepal erect, galea narrowly ovate, obtuse, 12-16 mm tall x c. 10 mm deep; spur generally slender, cylindriªcal, 1-5 mm long, sometimes conical; lateral seªpals patent, narrowly oblong, 8-13 mm long. Petªals with basal anticous lobe oblong, c. 4 mm long, limb linear, 10-15 mm long, geniculately bent through 90° near its middle, distal half of petal varying from obliquely obdeltate to lorate, acute or deeply lacerate. Lip ovate, c. 13-19 mm long, deeply dissected and beard-like, horizontal baªsally, longer than the lateral sepals. Anther horiªzontal or semi-pendent; stigma unequally tripulviªnate; rostellum equally 3-lobed.

Sepals: median sepal erect, galeate, ovate, obtuse, 12-16 mm long; spur slender, cylindrical, tapering to apex, 1-5 mm long; lateral sepals spreading, narrowly oblong, 8-13 mm long. Petals with oblong, basal, anticous lobes, 4 mm long, limb linear, 10-15 mm long, geniculately bent, apex acute or deeply lacerate. Lip spreading, ovate, 13-19 mm long, deeply dissected and beard-like. Flowering time Dec., Jan., after fire.
