Characteristics

Plants slender, to 400 mm tall, suffused with beetroot-red; leaves green, narrowly lanceolate, basally to 100 x 20 mm. Inflorescences lax, to 300 mm long with (1-) 5-15 (-30) flowers; bracts purªplish-green. Flowers horizontal, purple-red, the lateral sepals paler and often yellow or white. Median sepal oblong-ovate, shallowly galeate, rounded, 9-11 x 5-7 mm; spur slender, tapering to an acute apex, 20-24 mm long; lateral sepals spreading, narrowly ovate, acute, much paler than the rest of the flower, 8-10 mm long. Petals very obliquely ovate, acute with a shallowly emarªginate apex. Lip narrowly elliptic to almost lorate, subacute to acute, fleshy, 8-10 mm long. Anther semi-pendent, c. 4 mm long, about lh as tall as the rostellum; rostellum c. 3 mm tall.
