Characteristics

Plants 400-600 mm tall; radical leaves 8-13, syn-anthous, semi-rigid, erect, base to 2 mm wide, cauline leaves completely sheathing, lax, brown, 20-40 mm long. Inflorescences lax, 15-30-flowered. Flowers deep cerise-red. Median sepal erect, ovate to broadly ovate, galea 9-12 mm tall; spur conical, tapering to a subacute apex, 2-3 mm long; lateral sepals patent, oblong, usually rounded, 8-10 mm long. Petals with the basal anticous lobe broadly oblong, rounded or truncate, margins entire or shallowly serrulate, 3-4 mm long, limb lorate, 7-10 mm long, curved falcately or geniculately, apex more or less bilobed. Lip patent, oblong, margins crenulate to lacerate, rarely entire, 8-10 mm long. Anther horizontal; stigma with median lobe smaller; rostellum equally 3-lobed.
