Characteristics

Plants slender, 300-600 mm tall; sterile shoots slender, 30-40 mm long, basal sheaths 1-2, hyaline, leaves 3-4, often petiolate, erect, condupli-cate; fertile shoots: cauline leaves 8-16, subimbricate, basal sheath(s) hyaline, leaves occasionally larger basally, grading into the floral bracts, mostly sheathing. Inflorescences dense, (15-) 20-30-flowered; bracts c. 20 mm long, apex occasionally deflexed. Flowers facing down, c. 15 mm in diameter, pink to red, middle of galea white, lip yellow to pink. Median sepal erect, galea 7-10 x 4-5 x 3.5-4.5 mm deep, upper margin somewhat incurved; spur slender cylindrical, borne horizontally, soon upcurved, somewhat swollen apically, 7-17 mm long; lateral sepals spreading horizonªtally, shallowly concave, oblong, 7-10 x 3.5-5 mm, apiculi rudimentary to 1.5 mm long. Petals erect, narrowly oblong, occasionally widened in the middle, rear half fleshy, apical half often serªrate, 5.5-8 x 1-2 mm. Lip pendent, oblanceolate, apical margins often faintly serrate, 6-7 x 1-2 mm. Anther 2-3 mm long; stigma shortly stipitate; lateral rostellum lobes parallel.
