Characteristics

Plants subrobust to slender, 100-400 mm tall; basal sheaths usually 2, hyaline; leaves erect, imbricate, linear to lanceolate, 60-100 (-150) mm long, grading into the floral bracts. Inflorescences dense, 30-150 mm long; bracts as long as or more rarely overtopping the flowers. Flowers inserted at 45°, purple, petals and lip with distal 2h white with a few purple spots, older flowers turning blue. Median sepal galeate, angled forwards, rounded to apiculate, margins incurved, 4-6 x 3-4 x c. 1 mm deep; spur horizontal basally, flattened dorsoventrally, emarginate, a deep ventral groove apically, 2-6 mm long; lateral sepals oblong, obªtuse to rounded, navicular, 4-7 mm long, with large fleshy acute apiculi. Petals erect next to and curved over the rostellum, narrowly oblong, suboblique, emarginate, 3-5 mm long, an obscure basal anticous lobe flanking and partially obscurªing the stigma. Lip narrowly oblanceolate to lorate, obtuse, fleshy, 4-5 mm long. Anther penªdent; stigma margins much taller than and curved over the receptive surface; lateral rostellum lobes smaller than the central lobe.

Inflorescence a dense, cylindrical raceme; flowers 15-40, imbricate, resupinate, purple, lip and petals with white blotch. Sepals 4-7 mm long; median sepal galeate, angled forwards; lateral sepals spreading forward; spur dorso-ventrally flattened, horizontal, emarginate, 2-6 mm long. Petals included in galea.
