Characteristics

Plants erect, slender, 150-450 mm tall; basal sheaths several, hyaline; leaves erect, rigid, imbricate, conduplicate, linear, usually reaching the inflorescence base, up to 200 mm long, grading into the floral bracts. Inflorescences dense, 20-120 mm long; bracts dry, usually reaching to the flowers. Flowers small, sepals pink to purple, lip darker red than sepals, petals white with blue spots apically. Median sepal acute, 4-5 mm tall, galea c. 2 mm wide x c. 2 mm deep, front margins extended and often reflexed, apex cucullate; spur horizontal, straight, 2.5-5 mm long; lateral sepals oblong to broadly elliptic, rounded, shallowly navicular, 4-5 mm long, shortly apiculate. Petals erect next to the rostellum, narrowly oblong, acute, falcate, 2.5-4 mm long, fleshy along midrib, with a small basal anticous lobe. Lip patent, oblong to elliptic, obtuse, 3.5-5 mm long. Anther horizontal; stigma front margins taller than and curved over the receptive surface; lateral rostellum lobes square, a deep groove between them, central lobe small.
