Characteristics

Plants robust, 130-250 mm tall; leaves densely imbricate, up to 150 mm long at the base of the stem, c. 30 mm at the apex, grading into the floral bracts. Inflorescences dense, subglobose to cylindrical; bracts about as long as the ovaries. Flowers facing down, white, sepals with some purple spots, petals with purple borders on basal anticous lobe and apex, lip with a few purple spots. Median sepal galeate, hemispherical, c. 10 mm tall, rounded, c. 7 mm deep; spur pendent, subcorneal, subacute, 3 mm long; lateral sepals narrowly ob-ovate to oblong, rounded, margins somewhat inªcurved, c. 10 mm long. Petals with a small circuªlar basal anticous lobe, 1.5 mm in diameter, flanking the stigma, c. 8 mm long, at first parallel to the anther, then geniculately upcurved and twisted to face forwards, deeply and evenly bifid, acute. Lip hastate, acute, 6 mm long. Anther hori-zontal, 2 mm long; stigma small, on a broad base; rostellum erect, lateral lobes oblong, enclosing the viscidia, central lobe small, fleshy.
