Characteristics

Plants slender, 100-600 mm tall, spreading by stolons; radical leaves c. 10, spreading, subcondu-plicate, narrowly oblanceolate or narrowly elliptic, up to 140 mm long, cauline leaves lax, completely sheathing, c. 25 mm long, grading into the radical leaves and the floral bracts. Inflorescences lax, up to 150 (-250) mm long, with 7-10 flowers; bracts shorter than and enclosing the ovaries. Flowers white to various shades of pink, very rarely (Transkei) yellow. Median sepal erect, acute, galea often cucullate apically, ovate, 5-12 mm long x 3-5 mm deep; spur horizontal or semi-pendent, conical to more rarely cylindrical, laterally flattened, 2-3 mm long; lateral sepals patent, broadly obovate, elliptic or oblong, 8-15 mm long, apiculi small. Petals flanking the anther, apices curved over it, obliquely lorate to narrowly oblong, acute, broadly fused to the rostellum, 4-5 mm long. Lip patent, apex curved upwards, linear, 3-4 mm long. Anther horizontal; stigma sessile at the rostellum base, equally tripulvinate; lateral rostellum lobes erect, canaliculate, central lobe reªflexed.

Flowers many, resupinate, white to rose-pink or yellow. Sepals: median sepal galeate; lateral sepals 7-16 mm long; spur conical, laterally flattened. Petals strap-shaped, reflexed parallel to anther, obliquely narrowly oblong, apex acute curved over anther. Lip patent, apex curved upwards, linear, 3-4 mm long. Flowering time June-Sept.
