Terrestrial herb, up to 0.7 m high. Inflorescence cylindrical with numerous flowers. Spur 0.8-1.5(-2.5) mm long, reaching below base of galea. Petals narrowly obovate, acute. Flowers yellow.
Very similar to Disa polygonoides, but differs by having yellow flowers and a shorter spur which is 0.8-1.5 (-2.5) mm long and rarely reaching below the base of the median sepal.
Fertile shoots 15–70 cm long, cauline leaves 6–25, sheathing at the base, free blade more or less conduplicate, linear to narrowly lanceolate and acute.
Sterile shoot not always developed, c. 5 cm long when present, with 3–4 semi-erect, acute, linear to lorate leaves up to 25 cm long.
Dorsal sepal forming an erect galea, 5–7 mm tall, 3–4 mm wide and c. 1 mm deep, elliptic to subobovate, obtuse.
Floral bracts narrowly ovate, acute to subacuminate, usually as tall as the flowers with the apices reflexed.
Terrestrial herb with separate fertile and sterile shoots, perennating by testicular tubers.
Spur pendent from just above the base of the galea, 0.8–1.5(2.5) mm long.
Flowers bright yellow, often with apices of the parts orange-tinted.
Inflorescence dense, 3–17 cm long, cylindrical, 80–100-flowered.
Lateral sepals 6–7 mm long, narrowly oblong, acute.
Petals 4–6 mm long, narrowly obovate, acute.
Stigma with well developed lateral lobes.
Lip c. 6 mm long, lorate to linear.
Anther erect, c. 3.5 mm long.
Ovary 5–10 mm long.
Rostellum simple.
Buitendag 710.
