Characteristics

Woody, dwarf shrub up to 600 mm high; sometimes flowering when still herbaceous, stems mainly branched near base or near apex; ± tomentose with long, jointed, white hairs. Leaves oblanceolate to narrowly elliptic, acute, ± sessile, margins with ± 4 pairs of teeth towards apex or ± entire, glabrous. Flowers often in dense, terminal spikes, up to 150 mm long. Calyx 2 parts narrow, keeled and ciliate. Corolla white; tube narrow, split on anterior side; limb of 4 posterior lobes, ± equal. Flowering time May, Aug., Sept. Fruit breaking into 2 cylindrical cocci or elliptical, non-splitting.
