Characteristics

Plants 130-210 mm; leaves 2, cauline, opposite, broadly ovate, acute, purple beneath, normally 35 x 25 mm. Inflorescences 1-2-flowered; bracts ovate, acute, 5-25 x 3-15 mm. Flowers mauve with petals streaked with maroon, lip appendage yellow; ovary narrowly cylindrical, twisted, 12-20 mm long. Median sepal c. 2 mm deep, linear-oblanceolate, acuminate, c. 10 mm long; lateral sepals fused at the base then spreading, oblanceolate, 8-10 x 6-8 mm, spurs conical, 1.5 mm long. Petals adnate to the median sepal, falcate, oblong, 5-6 x 3-4 mm. Lip basally fused to the gynostemium, ascending; claw linear, incurved, c. 8 mm long; blade ligulate, 0.5 mm long; appendage paired, hanging over the blade, 2-4 mm long. Anther horizontal; stigmas linear along the anterior margin of the rostellum arms; rostellum arms suberect, 2 mm long.

Lip erect; claw c. 6 mm long, unguiculate; limb minute, reflexed; appendage about 4 times as long as the limb, recurved, dilated into 4 spreading lobes or 2-lobed at the apex and the lobes shortly 2-lobed. Limb and appendage densely papillose-hairy on the inside.
Terrestrial herb, up to 250 mm tall. Leaves cauline, 2, subopposite. Dorsal sepal and petals forming a shallow hood, less than 5 mm deep. Lip terminating in 4 spreading lobes. Flowers white, pink or rose-coloured.
Lateral sepals joined near the base, 8–10 × 4–4.5 mm, obliquely obovate-oblong, subacute or apiculate, each with a slender, acute sac-like spur 1.5–2.5 mm long directed toward the sepal apex.
Petals projecting beyond the dorsal sepal, 11–14 mm long, obliquely rhomboid-falcate, acute, with a rounded lobe on the lower half of the free margin.
Dorsal sepal 10–13 mm long, linear, concave, joined with the petals to form an open hood.
Inflorescence 1–3-flowered; flowers pale to deep pink or white, with purple dots within.
Rostellum broadly ovate-orbicular, shortlybifid with reflexed margin; arms 2–3 mm long.
Leaves 2, ± opposite, 2–7.5 × 1.5–4.5 cm, ovate, with petiole c. 3 mm long.
Slender terrestrial herb 8–25 cm tall.
