Woody herb; stem 4-angled, shortly appressed pilose.. Leaves sessile; lamina ovate, 1.5–5.5 cm. long, 0.7–2 cm. wide, apex acute, base cordate, appressed pilose on both surfaces; midrib and 1–2 pairs of longitudinal nerves impressed above, subprominent beneath.. Inflorescences 1-flowered at the ends of leafy branches; flowers 5-merous, subtended by leaf-like persistent bracts.. Flowers not seen.. Fruiting calyx (fig. 11/1, p. 32) campanulate, 15 mm. long, 13 mm. in diameter, densely covered by setose scales, setae 1–7 mm. long; capsule not exserted, setose at the apex.
