Characteristics

Leaf 1, occasionally 2, 100–250 × 2–4 mm, folded. Flower stem 100–300 mm tall, 1–5-flowered. Flowers 20–30 mm across, bright lemon yellow with a few blackish markings. Dorsal sepal obliquely erect, 9–12 × 6–7 mm. Lateral sepals deflexed, 20–34 × 1.5–2 mm, widening towards apex. Petals obliquely erect to recurved; stalk 3–6 mm long, blackish; blade ovate, 8–13 × 6–9 mm. Labellum 10–13 mm long; lateral lobes 3.5–5 × 2–3 mm; midlobe wedge-shaped, 7–10 × 7–9 mm, folded. Callus ridges 2, c. 3 mm long.

Highly localised and rare; growing among shrubs, grasses, sedges and occasional stunted trees in an endangered ecological community known as ‘Byron Bay Dwarf Graminoid Clay Heath’, a rare habitat unique to the vicinity of Byron Bay. The soil is a grey to white sand over clay.
