Characteristics

Leaves 2–4, 100–300 × 4–7 mm, folded. Flower stem 150–400 mm tall, 1–6-flowered. Flowers 25–35 mm across, mostly bright yellow, some reddish markings on labellum, petal reverse side stained reddish brown; petals bright yellow, dorsal sepal and labellum lateral lobes yellow lightly stained with red-brown, midlobe yellow marked with red-brown. Dorsal sepal bent back, 11–15 × 15–20 mm, mostly yellow. Lateral sepals deflexed, usually crossed and recurved, 18–28 × 3–4 mm. Petals obliquely erect; stalk 5–7 mm long; blade elliptical, 16–25 × 10–13 mm. Labellum 8–11 mm long; lateral lobes 9–12 × 4.5–7 mm, straight; midlobe shallowly convex, margins downcurved, broadly wedge-shaped when flattened, 7–10 × 9–12 mm, tip decurved. Callus ridge 1, 5–7 mm long, yellow surrounded with dark red-brown.

Environment

Often forms large colonies in winter-wet sites in arid and semi-arid zones; commonly found growing on granite outcrops and on margins of granite sheets and sandstone rocks, also in pockets of shale and granitic rubble in Acacia shrubland and sheoak woodland.
