Characteristics

Leaves 2 or 3, 100–200 × 6–10 mm, folded. Flower stem 300–500 mm, 1–5-flowered. Flowers 25–35 mm across, bright yellow with mauve, white and greenish markings; petals bright yellow; dorsal sepal yellow lightly stained with brown, lightly to heavily marked with mauve-purple. Dorsal sepal erect, 9–14 × 10–13 mm. Lateral sepals deflexed, 15–22 × 2.5–3 mm. Petals obliquely erect; stalk 5–7 mm long, greenish mauve; blade ovate to oblong, 15–18 × 9–11 mm, light brownish on reverse. Labellum 8–10 mm long; lateral lobes spreading or recurved, 8–10 × 3–4 mm; midlobe flattish, broadly wedge-shaped, 6–8 × 7–10 mm, tip decurved. Callus ridge 1, 2–3 mm long, yellow.

Environment

Highly localised in small vegetative colonies; growing among low shrubs and forbs in crevices and rock gardens on coastal headlands and some offshore islands; also recorded from inland granite hills and outcrops in gravelly soils, but these populations need further study.
