Characteristics

Leaves 2–3, 120–200 × 3–8 mm, folded. Flower stem 150–350 mm tall, 1–6-flowered. Flowers 20–30 mm across, pale yellow with red to purple petal stalks and reddish to purplish tips on labellum lobes, exterior surface heavily stained with red-brown, sometimes whole flower with reddish suffusions. Dorsal sepal stalked, 12–14 × 12–14 mm, tip recurved or sharply reflexed. Lateral sepals deflexed, 13–20 × 3–3.5 mm, crossed and strongly recurved beneath ovary. Petals obliquely erect to recurved, divergent; stalk 3–6 × 1–1.5 mm, straight or curved; blade elliptical, 12–14 × 8–10 mm. Labellum 6–9 mm long; lateral lobes 8–10 × 4–6 mm, spreading widely or drooping, tips often recurved; midlobe convex, margins downcurved, broadly wedge-shaped when flattened, 6–8 × 8–9 mm, tip decurved. Callus ridge 1, 4–5 mm long.

Locally common; growing on slopes and flats in seasonally moist, sandy loam over laterite in open forest, shrubland and heathland; also occurs on margins of granite outcrops, and around the base of mesas formed on shale.
