Characteristics

Leaves 2, 150–250 × 3–4 mm, folded. Flower stem 200–350 mm, 2–5-flowered. Flowers 20–30 mm across, dark orange-yellow heavily marked with brown and purple. Dorsal sepal erect, 6–10 × 7–11 mm. Lateral sepals deflexed to recurved, 12–18 × 2–4 mm. Petals recurved or reflexed; stalk 5–8 mm long, dark red-brown; blade ovate, 5–11 × 4–9 mm, yellow, exterior heavily blotched. Labellum projected forwards, 5–8 mm long; lateral lobes 5–8 × 4–7 mm, broadly rounded; midlobe wedge-shaped, 4–5 × 5–7 mm, folded. Callus ridges 2, 4–6 mm long.

Environment

Locally common in scattered patches; growing among rocks (often granite) on ridges, slopes, cliff faces and gorges in shallow, stony soil and gravel within open forest; also occurs among shrubs and coarse tussocks in montane snow gum forest in brown loam; less commonly on swamp margins amongst dense sedges.
