Characteristics

Leaves 2 or 3, 80–250 × 4–7 mm, folded. Flower stem 250–500 mm tall, 1–7-flowered. Flowers flat in profile, 20–30 mm across, mostly yellow (often pale yellow) with reddish petal stalks and brown to purple suffusions in labellum lobes, exterior surface of all segments stained with red-brown. Dorsal sepal erect or recurved, 10–13 × 12–16 mm. Lateral sepals stiffly deflexed, usually crossed, mostly not recurved, 15–22 × 2.5–3.5 mm. Petals obliquely erect, divergent; stalk 3–5 mm long; blade broadly elliptical, 12–18 × 9–13 mm. Labellum 8–12 mm long; lateral lobes spreading widely, 8–10 × 4–6 mm; midlobe convex, margins shallowly downcurved, broadly wedge-shaped when flatttened, 8–12 × 8–11 mm, apex decurved. Callus ridge 1, 4–6 mm long, yellow surrounded by brown to purple.

Environment

Locally common in loose colonies; in the northern part of its range it grows in white sand over laterite in low shrubland and kwongan; in the southern part of its range is grows in Banksia woodland; also occasionally on margins of winter-wet swamps.
