Characteristics

Dioecious erect shrub to 4 m high. Leaves simple, sessile or tapering to a petiole 3–12 mm long, or lamina linear or oblanceolate, acute, obtuse or mucronate, entire or irregularly denticulate, attenuate at base, 2–6 cm long, 0.2–0.7 cm wide, glabrous, rarely sparsely puberulent on midrib and margin. Flowers in few-flowered axillary cymes; pedicels 1.5–4 mm long. Sepals 3, rarely 4, broadly lanceolate to ovate, 1.2–1.7 mm long, caducous or sometimes persistent. Stamens 6, rarely as many as 8. Ovary glabrous. Capsule 3-winged, rarely 4-winged, depressed-obovate in lateral view, 6–9 mm long, 11–16 mm wide, glabrous; wings 2.5–5.5 mm wide, membranous; dehiscence septicidal.
