Characteristics

Leaves opposite, imparipinnate, (1)3–4(5)-jugate; leaflets 1.5–7.5 (8.7) × 1–4(5) cm. ovate, elliptic or obovate, the more proximal ones smaller, sessile or subsessile, except the terminal one which is petiolulate, apex rounded to acuminate, base broadly cuneate to rounded, margin entire to minutely serrate, undulate; rhachis (2.2)2.7–14.5 cm. slightly sulcate above, terete below; petiole 0.5–3.7(4.7) cm. long, pseudostipules 0.3–1 cm. long, ovate.

Corolla tube (3.5) 4–5(5.5) cm. long, narrow, slightly widening at the upper part, glabrous outside, more or less brownish pilose inside towards the base; corolla lobes white, 2–3 × 1.7–2.5 cm. rounded, somewhat fleshy, wavy at the margin.
Branchlets puberulous, soon becoming glabrous except at the leaflet articulations and provided with small scales which persist on the inferior surface of the adult leaves.
Stamens didynamous; subsessile, included, adnate up to about four fifths from the base of the corolla tube; anthers c. 3mm. long.
Inflorescence up to 48 cm. long, many flowered, but only 2–3 flowers opening at the same time; pedicels 1–1.7 cm. long.
Calyx 2–3.3 cm. long coriaceous, spathaceous, slightly recurve-beaked, splitting along the posterior side.
Capsule 17–38 (50) cm. long, 1.3–2.8 cm. across and c. 0.5 cm. thick.
Bark pale brown to greyish longitudinally finely rough.
Seeds 0.6–1 × 2.5–4.2 cm., including the wing.
Ovary c. 5 mm. long, longitudinally bisulcate.
Deciduous shrub or small tree 3–12 m. tall.
Disk 2 mm. long, annular.
