Characteristics

Perennial prostrate herb up to 1 m. long from a tuber.. Stems many, sparsely pilose.. Leaves unifoliolate; leaflet ovate, 5–9·5 cm. long, 2·5–6·8 cm. wide, acute at the apex, shallowly cordate at the base, glabrescent or with a few long hairs, densely speckled with minute blackish-red spots, 3–5 nerved from the base, the nerves diverging and not reaching the apex; petiole 1·5–1·8 cm. long and petiolule ± 3 mm. long, both pilose and clearly demarcated from each other by a pair of linear stipels 6 mm. long; stipules ovate-lanceolate, 1·2 cm. long, 6–7 mm. wide, veined and marked with dark red lines and dots, sparsely ciliate.. Flowers 4–5 in axillary fascicles; peduncle obsolete; pedicels ± 2–5 cm. long, sparsely spreading pubescent; bracteoles minute, linear.. Calyx glabrescent or sparsely pubescent, densely marked with deep red; tube ± 3 mm. long; 3 lower lobes triangular, 3–5 mm. long; upper pair joined to form an acute triangular lobe.. Standard purple, almost round, 1·5 cm. long.. Fruit not seen.
