Characteristics

Suberect or decumbent perennial herb 10–25 cm. tall from a rather slender woody rootstock.. Stems with very sparse long white fine hairs.. Leaflets 3, elliptic to oblong-elliptic, the laterals slightly oblique, 1·2–4 cm. long, 0·8–2·8 cm. wide, subacute to broadly rounded at the apex, rounded or truncate at the base, glabrous on both surfaces save for some scattered hairs on the margins and nerves, noticeably 2–3-nerved from the base; petioles 1·4–5·5 cm. long; rhachis 0·5–1·9 cm. long; petiolules 2 mm. long; stipules leafy, persistent and conspicuous, elliptic, 6–10 mm. long, 2–5 mm. wide, 12–14-nerved; stipels, particularly the lower pair, conspicuous, 2–5 mm. long.. Racemes axillary, condensed, umbel-like; rhachis scarcely 1 cm. long; peduncle 4–20 cm. long, slightly swollen at the apex, sparsely pilose at the base, more densely so at the apex; pedicels 2–4 mm. long; bracts deciduous, 6 mm. long, 3 mm. wide; bracteoles persistent, 1·5–5 mm. long, 0·5–1 mm. wide.. Calyx frequently flushed very dark blackish-purple; tube 3 mm. long, practically glabrous; lobes deltoid, 1·5–3·2 mm. long, ciliate along the margins, the upper pair joined to form a slightly bifid lobe.. Standard basically green, yellow at the base, lilac-mauve at the apex, dusky outside and with deeper purple lines inside at the junction of purple and yellow parts, round or oblate, ± 9 mm. long and wide; wings greenish-yellow, magenta at the apex, lilac-mauve at the base; keel greenish-yellow.. Pods linear-oblong, 2·5–3·5 cm. long, 4·5–5 mm. wide, pubescent.. Seeds dark reddish-brown, ellipsoid, longest dimension 3·3 mm., shorter dimension 2 mm., 1·5 mm. thick.
