Leaves 1-foliolate; leaflet 12.8–22 × 0.5–3 cm, very narrowly elliptic to linear-elliptic, acute at the apex, cuneate at the base, sparsely pubescent, conspicuously 3-veined from base to apex, tertiary venation obscure; petiole 2–5 mm long; stipules 10–19 × 3–5 mm, narrowly lanceolate, striate; stipels minute.
Flowers axillary, in pairs or in 3–11-flowered fascicles; pedicels 1–3.7 cm long, sparsely pubescent or glabrous; bracts absent; bracteoles minute, linear.
Calyx sparsely pubescent; tube 2.5–3.5 mm long; lobes 2.5–4 mm long, triangular, upper pair fused for most of their length.
Ovary 5–8 mm long, linear-oblong, compressed, pubescent; style 3–5 mm long, stigma minute, terminal, capitate, penicillate.
Pods 4.2–5.2 cm × 7–9 mm, linear-oblong, sparsely pubescent on the surfaces, slightly more so on the margins.
Stems annual, unbranched or sparingly branched, sometimes zigzag, sparsely pilose or later glabrescent.
Standard purple, 12–18 × 12–16 mm, round or nearly so; wings deep bluish-purple; keel paler to white.
Erect herb 30–50 cm tall, arising from a perennial tuberous rootstock.
